Most of what we take down in Bloomingdale is loblolly and slash pine, with mixed hardwood along the low wet ground and the creek bottoms toward the Ogeechee side. Pines here are shallow rooted relative to their height, and the ground holds water. After a stretch of heavy rain a pine that has stood for forty years can start to lean, because the root plate is sitting in saturated soil with very little to grip.
The warning sign is at the base rather than up top. Look for fresh soil heaving or a crack opening in the ground on the side away from the lean. Once a root plate has begun to lift it does not settle back, and the tree is a removal rather than something to watch. Wooded lots also mean drawn-up pines with small canopies and little taper, which snap partway up in wind more often than they uproot.
Septic fields, wells, and where the truck can drive
Plenty of properties out here are on septic and well rather than city services, and that changes the job in a way suburban work does not. A loaded chip truck or a bucket truck across a drain field can crush the lines, and the damage does not show until the system backs up. Tell us where your tank, field lines, and well head are before we bring equipment in, and if you are not certain, say that too so we can stay off the uncertain ground and work from further out. Soft sandy ground after rain is the other reason we sometimes mat or plank a route in rather than driving straight across the yard.

This matters more than people expect. Bloomingdale is its own incorporated city with its own government, so what applies to a removal here is not automatically what applies in Pooler, in Garden City, or on unincorporated Chatham County land. Whether a permit is needed depends on your address, the species, and the size of the tree, and on larger parcels it can also depend on whether the work reads as lot clearing rather than taking out one tree.
